It was an inspiring evening at Tuesday’s Utica City School District Board of Education meeting! Members of the Kernan Elementary Business Club, accompanied by community liaison Karen Balandis, took over the Board seats to present their impactful work with the school’s food pantry. Their presentation coincided with a generous announcement from Robin Saxe of the MVCC Professional Association, who is donating a $1,000 volunteer stipend to support the pantry. The meeting also featured a powerful recognition of Juneteenth and Acting Superintendent Kathleen Davis presented Board member James Paul with a Certificate of Appreciation, celebrating his unwavering pursuit of equality, empowerment and community leadership. Board member Braedon Nanna was also honored with the NYSSBA Level Three Board Mastery Award, while student liaison Heather Concepcion received a plaque celebrating her dedicated year of elevating the student voice on the board. The district also extended its deepest gratitude to retiring Board member Donald Dawes for his incredible legacy of service spanning since 2003! Board member Tennille Knoop was also announced as the official nomination for the prestigious NYSSBA Everett R. Dyer Award for Distinguished Board Service. #UticaUnited
